About AIIS Impingement

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), specifically cam- and pincer-type, continue to be recognized as causes of intra-articular hip pathology and sources of hip pain. More recently, extra-articular causes of impingement have been reported.

The anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) has been a specific area of focus from arthroscopic surgeons due to its variable bony morphology and its risk for avulsion fracture by the pull of the rectus femoris muscle.
